Open Clips faster

Lock screen shortcuts · Widget (Coming Soon) · Action button

Work moments pass quickly. Lock-screen shortcuts or the Action button help you open Clips without hunting for the app.

Why speed matters

You often need to capture something right away. If opening the app takes too long, many people fall back to the default camera.

Clips works best when you can open it the moment you think of it.

Pick one method below that feels natural—even one is enough 🙂

1. Open from the lock screen

Both iPhone and Android let you launch apps directly from the lock screen.

  • Recommended: When you must log something during work immediately.
  • Recommended: When you want to shoot without browsing the home screen.

2. Action button (select iPhones)

On iPhone 15 Pro and later, the side Action button can launch Clips. Android phones do not have this same hardware button. In Settings → Action Button (or equivalent), assign Clips.

  • Recommended: When you want a physical shortcut.
  • Recommended: When you need the fastest possible access.

Is it OK to put Clips on the lock screen?

You might worry that adding Clips makes the default camera harder to reach.

On many devices you already have quick paths to the stock camera—on iPhone via the Action button, Control Center, or camera control; on Android via the lock-screen camera shortcut or double-pressing the power button, depending on device.

So it is often easy to keep everyday shots on the default camera and work records in Clips.

Try this split

  • 📸 Everyday photos → default camera
  • 🧾 Work records → Clips
  • Splitting roles keeps libraries from mixing and stays easier to manage.

Key takeaways

  • The faster Clips opens, the more useful it feels.
  • Lock-screen shortcuts and the Action button cover most quick-launch needs.
  • Because the default camera is still easy to reach, using both together is often comfortable.
